Audition song cuttings for our fall musical, Legally Blonde Jr., are now available on the theatre call board outside of room 121. Audition packets and sign ups will be posted during registration in August. You can check out more information regarding the musical under the Theatre Productions tab. This contains a summary, character list, sample script cuttings and also songs to practice over the summer. See Mrs. Wheeler if you have questions!

TIPS FOR AUDITIONING FOR A MUSICAL

Before the Audition

-  Get to know the show!  Read the script, listen to the songs, watch the movie, etc.  Keep in mind that this is the JR. version!  The full version contains things that would NOT be appropriate at a middle school - those parts have all been reworked or cut so that it is appropriate for middle school!

-  Read the audition materials carefully!  If you don’t understand something, ask someone!

-  Prepare your song!  Choose one of the cuttings you will be successful at.  Be sure to practice and plan to sing with accompaniment.  If you don’t know how to pronounce something, look it up!  Make sure you understand the context of the song: is it funny or dramatic, etc.  Plan to sing your song in character with expression.  Plan out movements and gestures that fit with the song and the character!

  • Check out the Theatre Productions section of the HMS theatre site: http://heritagemstheatre.blogspot.com/
This section has sample songs, audition cuttings, information about characters, etc.

- Plan to attend the Audition Workshop on August 23!  This workshop will provide you with lots of tips and information you will need to know for your audition!  You will also get to practice the audition songs!

-  Don’t forget to proofread your audition form for errors!

- Sign up for an audition time!  Write the time down so you will remember!

- Practice dancing!  Take lessons, work out, dance at home, etc.  This show requires lots of dancing!!  Many characters have to dance and sing at the same time!  Being in excellent shape will help in your ability to do this!
