ATTENTION!!!
HERITAGE MIDDLE SCHOOL SPEECH AND DEBATE TEAM AUDITIONS

This year Heritage Middle School will have its very own Speech and Debate Team.  Students on the team will be able to compete in acting and debate events against students from other schools in the area.  The team will travel to two tournaments to compete in February 2016.  This is a great opportunity for anyone who loves to act, debate and compete!

**We will hold auditions to be on the team**

Here are some more details . . .

WHO:  Any 7th or 8th grade student in good academic standing is eligible to audition for the team.

WHEN:  Auditions will be held on Monday, December 7 for Competitive Theatre events and Tuesday December 2 for debate.  Listen to announcements and check the theatre callboard for audition details and a sign up sheet, which will be posted sometime in November.

WHERE:  Auditions will be held in room 121.  Team meeting dates and times will be determined once the team is assembled.

WHAT:  Students on the team will compete in National Junior Forensics League acting and debate events.  These events include:  Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Improvisation, Poetry, Prose, Storytelling, Comedic and Dramatic Duo, Comedic and Dramatic Duet Acting and Public Forum Debate.  More details regarding the events will be discussed in the audition packets as well as at team meetings.

To all who auditioned for the musical . . .

    First off, we are so proud of each and every one of you who auditioned for the musical this year.  It takes a tremendous amount of courage to do something like that!  No matter what the outcome, you should be extremely proud that you had the guts to do something many people are way to nervous to even attempt!

    This year's musical casting was very difficult!  Into the Woods Jr. has a small cast - we were able to cast 30 actors and over 100 auditioned for the show.  If you did not make the cast, please do not give up hope!  Many FANTASTIC performers did not make the show this year - it does not have to do with your talent or ability.  We only have room for a few and have to consider who is best for the particular roles in this show.  There will be other acting opportunities available this year and we would love for you to continue auditioning!  We would also love for you to be a part of the crew!  Crew applications are available on the theatre board!  Again, we encourage you to never give up trying!

   If you were cast, congratulations!  Please remember to be humble and conscious of the fact that many of your peers did not make it.  We will have our first rehearsal on Tuesday, September 8 from 3:00-5:00 pm in the vocal music room.  Packets with scripts and rehearsal schedules will be distributed at this time!  See you then!  We look forward to working with you!

Changes to Musical Auditions!!!
  If you have already signed up for an audition time for Into the Woods, your exact audition time has most likely changed.  In order to accommodate more student auditions we have shortened audition time slots from 5 minutes to 4 minutes.  Please check the list ASAP to see what your new time is!!

  Also, the audition workshop will now be held from 2:55-4:30 on Wednesday, August 26.  The date is still the same but the time has changed.  Please note this time change and make sure your parents are aware of when to pick you up!!

Welcome Back HMS!!

We are gearing up for what is sure to be another great theatre season here at HMS!!

Auditions for the Fall Musical, Into the Woods Junior, are quickly approaching!  You can pick up an audition packet outside of room 121 and also sign up for an audition time!  We will have an auditions workshop in the auditorium on August 26 from 3:00-4:15.  If you plan on auditioning, we strongly recommend you attend this workshop!  Auditions will be held on August 31, September 1 and 2.  Hope to see you there!

As always, we will also have many crew opportunities for those of you who love the backstage aspect of theatre!  If you are interested in being the Stage Manager or Assistant Director for the fall musical pick up an application form outside of room 121 NOW!!  Forms are due to Mrs. Wheeler by August 20 and the positions will be announced on August 21!  Application forms are also available for the Makeup Design and Scenic Painting crews.  Applications for those crews are due to Mrs. Wheeler by August 26 and the crew members will be announced on August 27!

TIPS FOR AUDITIONING FOR A MUSICAL


Before the Audition

-  Get to know the show!  Read the script, listen to the songs, watch the movie, etc.

-  Read the audition materials carefully!  If you don’t understand something, ask someone!

-  Prepare your song!  Choose one of the cuttings you will be successful at.  Be sure to practice and plan to sing with accompaniment.  If you don’t know how to pronounce something, look it up!  Make sure you understand the context of the song: is it funny or dramatic, etc.  Plan to sing your song in character with expression.  Plan out movements and gestures that fit with the song and the character!

-  Don’t forget to proofread your audition form for errors!

- Sign up for an audition time!  Write the time down so you will remember!

Also . . . it would help to be familiar with ALL of the song cuttings just in case the directors ask you to sing something else!

Audition Materials Now Available!!!

Anyone who is interested in auditioning for the fall musical in August can now pick up audition materials from the theatre call board!  Since the music in Into the Woods Jr. is quite challenging, we have decided to post these materials earlier than usual so actors can rehearse their songs over the summer if they wish.  If you would like to get a head start on preparing for your audition in August, you can pick up your materials now!

Into the Woods Jr. Design and Leadership Opportunities!!

If you are interested in being a Student Director or Stage Manager for the fall musical, application forms are now available on the theatre call board.  This is a great opportunity to gain leadership experience and be a major part of the show!  These applications are due August 20!

If you are interested in being a Makeup Designer or Scenic Painter for the fall musical, application forms are now available on the theatre call board.  If you are artistically inclined and would like to put your skills to great use for our show, you should definitely submit an application and design!  These designs and applications are due August 26 so if you want to work on them over the summer pick up yours today!!
